Getting Your Prescription
Your pharmacy benefit
You have the choice to get your prescription medication where you need it from any of our in-network pharmacies. Closures and staff shortages have recently made getting prescriptions more difficult but there are options available that can help you avoid the long lines to pick up your prescriptions.
Pharmacies that deliver
Delivery of your prescriptions is an option with some pharmacies. Checking the pharmacies website to see if they deliver is one option. The other option is calling your local pharmacy to see if they deliver. Reaching your pharmacy by phone is difficult right now. Please call in off times and continue to try. Your retail pharmacy team is doing the best they can to fill prescriptions and administer vaccines.
How to get 100-day supplies of your medication
If you are on a maintenance medication (a medication that is used to treat a condition that is considered long term), you can ask your prescriber to write your next prescription for a 100-day supply. This means you will have to go into the pharmacy less often.
You also have the option of filling maintenance medications at a mail order pharmacy. Trillium has two mail order pharmacies to choose from: Postal Prescription Service and CVS Caremark. You can get forms for mail order pharmacies here. You can also ask for assistance from your Case Manager or Member Services.
Early Prescription Refills
You don’t have to wait until you run out of your medication (drugs), to get a refill from your pharmacy.
- You can refill most medications you take daily up to six (6) days before you run out.
- The type of medication you take impacts when you can get a refill.
- The amount of medication your provider prescribes impacts when you can get a refill.
Check the label on your prescription bottle to see how many refills you have left.
- Most providers ask for at least two business days to renew a prescription.
- If you don’t have any refills left, it may take more time to get your prescription filled.
This chart tells you when you can get your medications refilled.
Drug Type | When Are Early Fills Covered?
Percent Used | 30-Day Supply | 90-Day Supply
Controlled Substances* (CII, CIII, CIV, CV) | 90% | 3 days left | 9 days left¥ |
Eyedrops, Eye Gels & Eye Ointments | 50% | 15 days left | 45 days left |
All Other Medications▪ | 80% | 6 days left | 18 days left |
*Controlled substances are drugs tightly controlled by the government because they may be abused or cause addiction. CII medications include opioid pain medications and stimulants used to treat ADHD. CIII medications include acetaminophen with codeine, anabolic steroids and testosterone. CIV medications include benzodiazepines (such as alprazolam), certain muscle relaxants (such as carisoprodol) and hypnotic sleep agents (such as zolpidem). CV medications include pregabalin and cough suppressants containing codeine.
▪Maintenance medications that you have filled by a mail order pharmacy can be refilled even earlier. You only need to have used at least 65% of your medication if you receive prescriptions through mail order.
¥CII medications are not eligible for 90-day supplies.
How to transfer your prescription to a different pharmacy
If you would like to fill your prescription at a new or different pharmacy:
- Take your insurance card and a list of your medications to the pharmacy where you would like to fill your prescriptions.
- Your new pharmacy will contact your previous pharmacy to transfer your prescriptions.
- For this process to work smoothly, you will need to have refills left on your prescription. The medication you are filling must not need a new hard copy prescription.
- If you filled your prescriptions at Bi-Mart and your specific store closed, view the chart below to see where your prescription refills were transferred. You will want to share this information with your new pharmacy.
Note: Pharmacies are very busy with the COVID booster, the pediatric COVID vaccine, and the closure of Bi-Mart. Please reach out to your pharmacy earlier than normal so they have plenty of time to get your medication ready.
